Get Wisdom
Pro 4:5 Get wisdom
Solomon invites us in the book of Proverbs to consider the advantages of gaining wisdom. He considers his offer to be the world’s most fulfilling and satisfying. He calmly and quietly extends an outstretched hand to his reader and tells them to grasp wisdom from his words. He evaluates the benefits of wisdom and declares it the greatest of possessions. It is a stark contrast between the veritable glut of information that can be gleaned from the internet and the practical application of that knowledge into the wise living that Solomon offers. Our society clamors for the dispensed oratory babble spewed from lofty rooftops of ivy walled buildings. The professional professors cry out for our attention.
The intended purpose of this blog is to take Solomon’s offer of wisdom and give it a media platform. Certainly there is enough information offered on the internet but such information without practical application falls short of a head full of wisdom.
Solomon suggests us to listen in another place. (Prov 1:20-21 ESV) Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks. To our surprise we find that it is the street wise and market monger that are offered the heavenly jewel of wisdom. Throughout their daily routines the implementing of practical knowledge gains them access to the keys to the wisdom of Proverbs. For it is in the living of life that wisdom is practiced. The learning of the words fills the head with knowledge but living out the words puts wisdom in the heart. Wisdom is most applicable in the places where you live. The street wise and market monger have much to teach, especially when coupled with a healthy fear and knowledge of God.
This blog seeks to follow Solomon’s suggestions and heed his warnings so that we too might gain what is practical and applicable. Let us be like the sons of Issachar who were ” …men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…” (1 Chron 12:32) and have an awareness of our time so that we might know what we ought to do likewise. So join us on this life journey following wisdom’s call to a better and more fulfilling life.
So I invite to visit by from time to time and let’s discuss the great wisdom that Solomon has to offer from his writings.

Brent Donoho: A Bit About Me
Life looks different from age 50. God has been wonderful to me and my family as we have enjoyed living in Martinsburg, Indiana for the last 22 years. During that time I have discovered that I’m a bit of an eclectic eccentric. I dabble too much in many things and find myself a jack of all trades and master of none. We will see how this blog fairs with the rapacious upkeep a blog needs to keep it fresh and relevant. Let us begin the journey.
